Food trucks are one of the most flexible ways to feed a crowd: no kitchen needed, fast service and a fun look. Pricing works differently from a traditional caterer, so it helps to know the three common models.
Three Ways Food Trucks Charge
- Minimum guarantee: you guarantee the truck a minimum in sales (for example, $1,500). If guests buy less, you pay the difference.
- Per-guest package: a set menu at a price per guest (planning range about $15–$35), paid by the host.
- Guest-pay: for big public or office events, guests pay for their own food and the host pays little or nothing.
Ranges are catering.broker planning assumptions, not quotes.
How Many Trucks Do You Need?
A truck with a short menu can serve about 75–150 guests in a two-hour window. For 150+ guests, book two trucks or ask for a pre-set menu that speeds up service. Our cost calculator includes a food truck option.
Check Before You Book
- Space: a level spot about 30–40 feet long with clearance for the serving window.
- Power and water: some trucks bring a generator; ask about noise.
- Permits: the truck needs a valid health permit; some cities need an event or parking permit too.
- Venue or HOA rules for trucks on site.
- Insurance: many venues ask for a certificate of insurance.
